Isn't it what we all think about when SL modeling is mentioned? 'Course, nobody talks about those unexperienced models doing in-store modeling and paid next to nothing (unless, you have no life and stand on that pose stand everyday). 'Course, if you are friend with the designer, your case probably isn't so bad. But all the others could be considered the cheap labor of SL. 50L$ for an in-store runway show compared to 1000s of L$ for a model working for an agency.
Not only is the pay not that great (hell, I'm sure hookers get more), some are also treated like cheap labor. In my case, I was complaining to a friend who models at the same place as me that the top I had gotten for the week was way too revealing and that it was the second time I was getting something revealing. I don't mind revealing stuff as long as I don't look like a cheap hooker. Which wasn't the case with last week's top and definitely not the case for this weeks top. Anyway, my friend told me that maybe I should talk to the model manager because, after all, if she doesn't know a problem exists, how can she help me?
So, contacted the manager saying that, if it was possible next time, I would prefer getting conservative stuff. I then got a message saying the owner was about to send me an IM (gotta love Emerald for that). My first reaction was "uh oh". My finale reaction after I read what she had written was "crap". She was basically saying that if I didn't like what I was getting, I could always go. When she asked me to become a model and the week after, I was being told how great my style was how good I was and so on. Next thing I know, I'm being told that I'm free to go, I,m replaceable, I'm not that special. Way to deflate an ego.
She then told me that models were basically getting all the same thing every week. Sure... that's why my friend got the Joan dress and the Paris dress and I got revealing stuff. She then told me that they were sending models what they thought would fit them. Hahaha... you can't possibly hit it right when you don't know the model and her tastes. Also, it's plain stupid marketing wise to not send models something they like... If they like it they'll wear it outside the store and it's going to be free publicity. It's a basic trick of marketing in SL, especially in the case of casual/everyday clothes. She finally suggested me to wear the top I got the week before (color: bright purple) underneath the jacket (Barbie pink). Barbie pink + bright purple = worthy of What Not to Wear.
Thank goodness I have my inventory at the end of the day.
Now a song!
