Glimpse of the past

Remember when you were a noob? When every time you saw the price tag of 0L$ you were just taking the stuff without looking if you already had it? When you were friending everyone you saw, even if you had no idea who they were (never did that, but I'm sure some of you did)?

Well, I barely remembered those days until today, when I went to different freebie places searching for a free HUD I had that wasn't working properly anymore. I landed in freebie dungeons I had never seen before and then, I fell into that huge freebie place that I knew very well. It brought back to me memories when I first started SL, way before I knew my actual SL friends. A time when I thought bling was fashionable (I was so ignorant...). A time when I knew no one. A time when the only thing I did was getting those common freebies over and over again (SL Alzheimer). Got bored after the 3rd month (when I was just logging in once a week) and left SL.

Months later, when I decided to come back to try out role playing in a Harry Potter sim, it was like a new start. As I was playing a 1st year Gryffindor, I was walking around in a kid/pre-teen avatar. I actually made friends there and gradually grew up, meaning I became more confident regarding SL. Then joined another RP community, where I was a 3rd year Ravenclaw. My avatar was different, and I in fact looked like my best friend, as we were twins in that RP. Still, something in me was telling me that something was missing. I found it when I joined H:NB (another RP community) and got to create my own character, a 5th year, knowing what to do, as I had some experience, by that time, in role playing. At the same time, I got my very own look. A shape I like (and that isn't too tall [5'7"]), a skin I adore and hairs that are fabulous. Also, by that time, I had my very own group of close friends, people on who I can count on even if we sometime argue and bug one another.

Well, that's how I became someone in SL. Oh, not saying I became a star or whatever. No, just that some people, when they see me log in, say hi (or smack/poke me). That is the most important thing.

Some became someone by blogging, some by starting a clothing line, some by creating art with what they could do on SL, etc. But we all started the same way: landing on Orientation Island, knowing no one (well, I'm sure most of us knew no one), looking and walking like noobs, completely lost. (Some were lucky enough to already have RL friends on SL... so they weren't as lost). Interesting to see how all those noobs actually transform into some interesting peoples/avs and enrich our second lives.
