Time to learn

Readers that are from Canada, you can stop reading and go back to what you were doing. *sees no one leaving* That's what I thought. As I am feeling sarcastic and humorous this evening, I thought it would be interesting to educate my readers... especially the ones who just know that Canada makes syrup or that Canada is the 51st state of the USA (say that out loud in Canada and everyone will look at you as thought you were mental and you will be hated in Quebec). I'm aware that some of you know about my great country, but I'm sure some (at least one monkey) have no clue.

Let's start with the basic: the languages. Canada has TWO official languages: french and english. Why? Because one of it's province is mainly francophone (french-speaking) and that francophones were up North before the anglophones (they all came around the time of the Independence War... you know, the loyalists). Anyway, Canadians are not just a bunch of english speaking people.

Second, the ten provinces: Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. And the three territories: Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

The three biggest cities: Toronto(Ont.), Montreal(Qc) and Vancouver(BC)

Now, something everyone should know. The capital of Canada is Ottawa and our Prime Minister (well for now, as we are about to have elections) is Stephen Harper of the Conservative Party.

Also, we have more then two parties in Canada... In fact, we have 4 major parties and others that are just random (we have a Marijuana Party ¬_¬).

Now, the difference between a Prime Minister and a President. In the US, the President is the chief of state and the head of the government. In Canada, the Prime Minister is ONLY the head of the government, while the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II represented by Governor General Michaelle Jean (a french Canadian!). In fact, it's the same thing in any country where the type of government is constitutional monarchy. Now if you don't know what that means GOOGLE IT!

Here are some useful links if you want to learn more about Canada:

Now, have fun learning more about your neighbors above you (oh, and did you knew that we are the 2nd biggest country in the world!) and if you are not from the US... well have fun learning about the neighbors of the US.
