Prim babies...

Finally a controversial subject! Ok, perhaps not, but I know some people will disagree with me. So, yesterday evening, the Late Show (from Metaverse TV, hosted by... I don't remember) was hosted at Hogwarts. So, the first to be interviewed was Danton, and his interview was really interesting. In fact, I was lagging horribly but I could still hear Danton speaking, I just couldn't speak to anyone, so I decided that I wouldn't force SL to close until the end of that interview. That is why you learn to love commercial breaks. After, their was that women from a Star Trek roleplaying sim or something (I missed the beginning because I was relogging) and Justify was joking around... as always. It's the third and final interview that was truly interesting.

Two women, both pregnant, one of a few weeks, the other of six months. The one of a few weeks had a medical check up sometime ago. What is so special about that interview? Their pregnancy is not real! It's a VIRTUAL pregnancy! The medical check-up was also fake! ALL VIRTUAL! The one that was just a few weeks "pregnant" explained that she couldn't afford having a baby in her life, as babies are too expensive. One thing to say: instead of spending a fortune on clothes, on skins, on hairs and on AOs, perhaps you could spend that money to have a REAL baby and experience a REAL pregnancy. All you get from a virtual pregnancy is a fat avatar for nine months. You don't FEEL your baby growing inside of you. You don't feel the pain when you give birth... ok, that may be a plus, but still! You don't get to hold that cute little bundle of joy after virtually giving birth. Then, it was time for the 6 month pregnant lady to speak. Guess what? She happens to be the doctor and the dude that animated the show even mentioned that she had medical experience in RL. Anyway, she was saying that women that come to her clinic (yes, their is a virtual pregnancy clinic...) are women that in RL can't afford to have a baby or that simply can't have a baby for biologic reasons. As I said, all you get is a fat avatar for nine months. Imagine if everyone decided to have a virtual pregnancy? Second Life would be dead because everyone on Earth will have given birth to a prim baby instead of a real one. Soon in a cinema near you: The Invasion of the Prim Babies. Anyway, I just think that spending between 4000L$ and 12000L$ is too much, even if in RL money it's not too much. That little bit of money you spend to have a fake baby could be kept for later to have a real baby.

Which brings me to ask myself: is this going a bit too far in the possibilities a virtual world can offer? I think so, as everyone should remember that virtual is and will always be virtual. Everybody should remember that, even if Second Life offers great possibilities (like becoming a witch or walking in high heels for a week), it won't give you a roof on your head, food to eat or a computer to go and explore SL. Yes, some actually started businesses in SL that actually brings them loads of money and they can live with only that money, but these are EXCEPTIONS. Anyone who reads that, please consider that and if you have anything to say, you know where to click (on the "Comments" button).

P.S.: on a more humoristic note, if you really want to throw 4000L$ out the window, give it to someone who really needs it or is constantly broke... *becoming serious again* but I encourage to give it to a NICE noob that didn't ask for anything so that said noob can get a nice skin, nice hair and nice clothes.
